How it Works

Going solar with Sunlarus is simple—you’re essentially trading your electric bill for a lower, fixed monthly rental fee. Instead of paying the utility, you pay Sunlarus about half of what you currently spend, and we handle everything else. We install the system, maintain it, monitor its performance, and repair or replace anything that’s ever needed. There are no upfront costs, no long-term surprises, and no responsibility on your part. You get reliable solar power, predictable savings, and total peace of mind—while keeping more money in your pocket each month.

It may sound like a gimmick, but we promise you it is not. You save from day one and we profit long term. A win-win for both of us.

What is Net Metering?

Net Metering is a billing agreement between you and the utility company that allows you to "store" the solar energy you produce but don’t use immediately. Think of the electric grid as a virtual battery.

When your solar panels produce more electricity than your home needs (like during the day while you are at work), that excess power flows back to Duke Energy. Instead of paying you cash, Duke gives you a 1-for-1 credit on your bill. You can use these credits later when the sun isn’t shining (like at night) or during months when you use more power than you produce.

The "Banking" vs. "Withdrawal" Cycle

Solar production and home energy usage are rarely perfectly synced. We design your system to balance out over the course of a full year, which creates two distinct seasons for your "Solar Bank Account":

The "Banking" Months (Spring & Fall): During months like March, April and May, the sun is strong, but your A/C isn't running constantly. You will likely produce more power than you use. This surplus builds up a large balance of credits in your account—like depositing money into a savings account.

The "Withdrawal" Months (Summer & Winter): During July and August (peak heat) or January (cold snaps), your A/C or heater works overtime, and you will likely use more power than your panels produce. This is normal and you simply "withdraw" the credits you banked in the spring to pay for the extra energy you need, keeping your bill low.
